KNOCK! 6 in the works

KNOCK’s editor-in-chief has been released from the dungeon level we locked him in for all these months. Good news, he’s in good shape. No, the fungal growths on his head are normal. Trust us! We found the walls of Josh’s Underworld covered with editorial scribblings, and chests filled to the brim with correspondence, adventures, and maps were waiting for us. Olivier and myself are helping make sense of all this material, and it is going swimmingly. Articles are being laid out at lightning speed as I write this. So again, expect a crowdfunding campaign in the next few months!

Winter and the Wolf Princess, an adventure by Brad Kerr

We’re breaking out of the double feature mold this time. Our next Kickstarter campaign will be for a Kerr original. The up-and-coming OSR star and module critique extraordinaire has made us a pitch we couldn’t refuse. Winter and the Wolf Princess is snowy romp about a valley where spring is never in sight, giant rosebushes, demigod animals, faerie tricksters, and living mountains. It has the mix of whimsy and gritty we love, and we think you will too. The text is now finalised, the layout is almost complete, and Kennon James (whose work you’ll be familiar with if you have read Dungeon, Inc.) is sending us some great illos (add to this beautiful maps by Ripley Matthews). Expect the campaign to start soon (like days)!

XNOO issue one is on its way to everyone

Screenshot

Our first venture outside of RPG space is now being distributed to its Canada and USA backers; for an unknown reason, there were way more border and tariffs hoops to jump through. But the pallet finally made it to Andy Action Fulfillment and the fine folk there have been stuffing envelopes and sending them your way. If you’re in Northern America and still waiting, it shouldn’t be long! (But if you haven’t seen anything in say two weeks, do get in touch on Discord.)
I should also mention that XNOO needs your help! If you enjoyed reading this love letter to sword & sorcery and comics, please spread the word! Comics are much more costly to produce than elfgames books, and we need some more paying eyes on these pages, as we want to be able to make the next issue (And we already have plenty of ideas and work in progress to make this collection of S&S goodness even better!).
You don’t have to spam your social feeds with it (algorithms will do what they will anyway), but please do mention it to a friend or two. XNOO is available directly from us on our American and European webstores. We’re counting on you—thank you!

CRACK! and CRACK!+

At the Mushmen Battle Headquarters, we think that dungeons, dragons, d20s, goblin markets and saving throws belong to all of us. They’ve been a part of our culture for over half a century, and they’ve been enshrined as free to use at the beginning of this one by WotC themselves.

Announcing the Common Rules for Adventure Campaigns by KNOCK!

This little game is our brick in the corporate window. CRACK! is broadly compatible with the 1981 rules and most OSR systems. We hope it will be used as a *lingua franca* for all our material to be compatible, whatever happens with the OGL in the future.

CRACK! is a free PDF you can download here , and the full text of the rules is released under CC-BY- 4.0. You can steal it in its entirety for any use, commercial or not. (Have a look inside the book for some precisions.)

And more than just the game!

We’ve reached out to some of the KNOCK! contributors, asking if they had some free stuff to give us (or the time to make some) and the result is CRACK+, a series of mini supplements containing more character options, creatures, adventures, and random tables.

The first XX issues of CRACK+ are available for free from our Resources page.

You can use these in your games (whatever system you use), and as a base to develop your own material. Another one of our goals for this game is to show newcomers to the adventure gaming (we call them 5Expatriates) how easy it is to make homebrew spells, classes, magical items and the like.

We’d like to thank Erin ‘taichara’ Bisson, Evlyn Moreau, Frank Reding, Harbowoputra &Renata Sumadinata, James Maliszewski, John Grümph, Nicolas Dessaux, Rosie Grey,  Stuart Robertson, and Vagabundork for answering the call of community and producing cool stuff with a few days’ notice. Go buy their games, they’re worth every penny.

And thank you too, for checking out CRACK!
